This isn't theory.

My younger son didn't read fluently until years after the other kids. School had him believing he wasn't smart, so I took him out in year 3. I didn't drill him on academics; we built foundations instead. At 15 he launched his own activewear business and finished a Certificate IV in Personal Training before his old classmates left school. His brother left school the same way and, with no experience, worked his way to Assistant Head Sommelier at Attica in Melbourne, one of the most celebrated restaurants in the country.

Their childhood was far from perfect. That's the point. Foundations matter more than perfect conditions.
